Queen Victoria and Prince Albert’s Descendants
This descendancy chart was probably created to honor Queen Victoria’s Golden Jubilee in 1887.
Our computerized genealogy programs have many chart options. Most of us use only the ahnentafel or pedigree view, traveling backward in time, beginning with a particular person, and then listing ancestors. Descendancy charts, on the other hand, go forward in time toward the present, beginning with a person or couple, and then listing their descendants. The FamilySearch website reminds us that, “looking at your tree in the opposite direction can expose branches that you had no idea existed. It’s family history from an entirely new angle.”
RESEARCH TIP: Find out how many different charts your computerized genealogy program can make, and print out one of each. Looking at the “same old information” from a different point of view may solve a persistent problem, reveal a new relationship, or even expose an information input error.
